For those of you that aren’t really familiar with corner shelving units, you might assume that they are simply shelves that sit in the living room used to hold a handful of family photographs in nice looking frames and maybe even a few decorations.
This is the reason I’m writing this article – it’s so that I can dispel this myth altogether. There are actually are number of ways a corner shelves get used in a family home. On top of this, they aren’t just for personal usage. They also often get used in offices.
As you probably know, available space in any environment, whether residential or commercial, is hard to come by these days. With the ever growing population, it is no surprise there is progressive less and less space we have for use.
At the same time, what available space there is, it comes at a price. For families, this may mean needing to settle for a smaller home such as a 2 bedroom apartment. For businesses, an office with a smaller floor space might have to do.
With such spatial restrictions, there is a need then to be more creative in using the space. Corners in any room are often difficult to utilize because of their awkward position. Hence, corner shelves become perfect to alleviate this problem.
In a typical home, there are a number of rooms in which the corners end up being underutilized to a high degree. One example is of the living room.
A regular bookshelf may not end up flush against a corner of a wall. However, if you got a specialized corner bookshelf, the result will be different. Another room that could benefit from a corner shelving unit is the bathroom.
If you have a small bathroom like I do, then you’ll know that being cramp in it is not a good feeling at all. If I were you, I would get a floating corner shelf which would simply hang on the corner of the wall.
In an office, you’ll be able to store all your past and current project files, client information and administration data in an effective manner by using corner bookcase units.
If your office happens to have a relatively high ceiling, you can take advantage of the vertical space by getting taller corner units. The only downside is the inconvenience of accessing the top shelves. This of course can easily be solved by using a small, portable and easy to store step stool.
